The Red Devils comfortably won the Community Shield on Sunday beating Chelsea 3-1 thanks to goals from Antonio Valencia, Javier Hernandez and Dimitar Berbatov. Manager Sir Alex Ferguson will have been pleased by his side’s display, but he will know that there is a long way to go in the season. New signings Hernandez and Chris Smalling have impressed in pre-season. Ferguson is looking to bring in Germany star Mesut Ozil, but may lose out to Barcelona.
Meanwhile Newcastle have retained most of their Championship winning side and hope to give a good fight on Monday. Manager Chris Hughton has signed Sol Campbell as cover for Stuart Taylor, who is out for three months with injury. Dan Gosling has also joined the club as has James Perch. The Magpies also appear interested in Scunthorpe striker Gary Hooper
