Roger Federer faces Marcos Baghdatis tonight in the semi-finals of the Cincinnati Masters with the match streaming live online
In a week in which he has seen retirements, byes and injuries, Roger Federer reached the semi-finals of the Cincinnati Masters on Friday after playing his first full match of the tournament on Thursday night, beating Russian Nikolay Davydenko in straight sets to advance to the final four. The Swiss faces Marcos Baghdatis tonight for a place in Sunday's final, knowing that although he should win on paper, the last time these two met (at Indian Wells earlier this year), Baghdatis emerged as the winner.
Baghdatis has been playing some solid tennis this year and recently reached the final of the ATP Washington before falling at the first hurdle last week in Toronto - quite possibly due to the sheer number of tournaments he has been playing in this year. The early exit in Toronto, however, has left Baghdatis fresh for this week and the rest has clearly worked wonders, with wins this week over Marin Cilic, Thomaz Bellucci, Tomas Berdych and world number one Rafael Nadal.
Federer is unsurprisingly favourite to advance to Sunday's final, but Baghdatis is sure to have his backers today.Federer will be keen to go all the way this week as he fine tunes his game ahead of the 2010 US Open which starts at the end of the month. It's hard to see the world number two losing tonight, despite Baghdatis' win over Nadal this week, although it would not be surprised if this one goes to a third and deciding set.
