Roger Federer was taken to five sets by Alejandro Falla in round one here at Wimbledon, but has gone on from strength to strength since. His straight sets victory in the last round against Arnaud Clement suggests that once again, Federer is likely to challenge for the title.
Today Federer faces Jurgen Melzer, who appears to be in a hot streak of form at the moment. He reached his first ever Grand Slam semi final at this year’s French Open, and has played well to reach the fourth round in this prestigious competition. Melzer is currently ranked sixteenth in the world, and is hoping to break into the top ten for the first time in his career. A win here would make this dream more of a reality.
Despite Melzers recent successes, Federer will be the clear favourite to win this match. Federer is still at the top of his game, and has won this event plenty of times; nobody would rule him out of yet another Slam victory this week. This could turn into a very crucial match, though Federer is likely to progress to the next round as expected.
